Anime Expo 2023
Another year has gone by for the largest anime convention in the United States, Anime Expo. Once again, I had the pleasure of returning since 2006. I have enjoyed taking photos for the past decade, but I wish Anime Expo offered a general ticket for the very expensive four-day pass. I do not attend panels or any exhibit halls, which makes the $145 weekend ticket a waste for me.
For some reason, Anime Expo put huge activities in the South Hall in 2023. They should have been in the Entertainment Hall, not filling an entrance hall. Because these items were in the South Hall, it made it so crowded. I believe that one reason for the huge occupancy is that Anime Expo has outgrown the Los Angeles Convention Center. The problem is that Southern California does not have a convention center that is large enough. The Anaheim Convention Center has increased in size and has hosted Anime Expo from 2003 to 2006 (and before that, from 1996 to 2002). I do not know if it is big enough, considering that approximately 40,000 people (tickets sold) attended Anime Expo.
Overall, Anime Expo 2023 was a success. Even the overcrowding issues at the Los Angeles Convention Center with an increase 385K over 145K last year (approx. count – of course AX 4 day attendance) not tickets sold which is less. Anime Expo was still very fun and enjoyable.
Be assured the organizers of Anime Expo are working on the convention’s crowded issues. I happen to see the method they were doing on the second day of event on the concourse hallway by making one way traffic instead of the chaos where people bumping into each other.
Will I return next year. Of course but sure would like a basic entrance ticket instead of full access.

Anime Expo – Largest Anime Con in USA

This 4-day anime convention is held during the Fourth of July weekend. Attendance in 2017 was well over 100,000. Event tickets range from $120 to $160. Anime Expo sold out in 2022.
If you are into anime, you need to come because there is so much to see. You can go to panels, shop, watch fashion shows, cosplay contests, see cosplayers, and much more.
The convention is a bit crowded when the fourth day falls on a Monday. The event is usually held from July 1 to 4 because the Fourth of July moves to different days each year. In 2018, Day Zero was on the Fourth of July.
I apologize that there is no marker for Anime Expo on Google Maps, but perhaps AX will create one. Please view the photos later. I will add photos as I process them. The photos I select are from my Instagram accounts or cell phone captures.
In 2022, badges were sold through Showclix. You can have badges mailed or picked up. If you go on Day Zero, which falls on Thursday, be sure to get your badges before Day One. In most years, the lines are 3 to 4 hours long, but in 2022, they moved under an hour. AX 2022 had 3 lines: badge pickup and registration, COVID-19 vaccination check, and swag bag.
